2014 is the International Year of Crystallography. This resolution was adopted at the United Nations General Assembly, held in July 2012 in Morocco. In 2014 we will celebrate the 100 years of Nobel Prize in Physics that was awarded to Max von Laue for the discovery of X-ray diffraction by crystals. The work of WH and WL Braggs (1913), will also be in the spotlight because they decipher the secret of the crystallin arrangement and thus contribute to the new era of modern crystallography.
Crystallography is a discipline which studies all crystalline materials. Therefore, UNESCO wanted to give the opportunity to many scientists, biologists, chemists, physicists, and geologists, to inform the public, of all the scientific discoveries that have been made through crystallography.
Throughout 2014 a number of events such as conferences, exhibitions and practical workshops for the public and schools will be held around crystallography. The AFMB laboratory, in collaboration with other laboratories of the PACA region (CINAM, IGS, spectropôle IMM, IM2NP, CEREGE ...), will be first in line to share his knowledge and expertise with the public.
All these events will be sponsored by the French Association of crystallography (AFC), the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) and of course the IYCr2014.
