These proteins are however functional and very widespread in the living world. The group played a key role in discovering that the measles virus nucleoprotein (N) and phosphoprotein (P) possess very long disordered regions (up to 300 residues), and then extended these findings to the N and P proteins from the Nipah and Hendra viruses, two safety level 4 human pathogens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-encart\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"is-style-justified\">This discovery opens numerous interesting perspectives from a fundamental point of view but also in terms of potential therapeutic applications. The originality and main strength of the researches carried out by the group resides in the multidisciplinarity through the integration of bioinformatic, biochemical, biophysical and structural approaches.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>More recently the group has started focusing on <strong>phase separation and transition<\/strong> phenomena mediated by intrinsically disordered protein regions. Liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) constitutes a new paradigm in biology and underlies the formation of membraneless organelles (MLO) and of viral factories in Mononegavirales members. These condensates allow fine spatio-temporal regulation of cellular activities. They can undergo &#8220;maturation&#8221; and nucleate amyloid-like fibers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>The group&#8217;s research is structured around the following three axes:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Phase separation or transition and fibrillation of the V and W proteins from the Nipah and Hendra viruses.<\/strong> These proteins play a key role in evading the host&#8217;s innate immune response. The research, carried out in the context of the <a href=\"https:\/\/anr.fr\/Projet-ANR-21-CE11-0012\">ANR HENIPHASE<\/a> project and of project funded by the CEFIPRA (collaboration with Samrat Mukhopadyay, IISER, Mohali, India), aims at (i) elucidating the molecular determinants of the fibrillation of these proteins, (ii) elucidating the functional role of these phenomena in the cellular context, (iii) determining the structure of these fibrils by cryo-EM, and (iv) evaluating the antiviral potential of fibrillation inhibitors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) leading to the formation of viral factories in paramyxoviruses.<\/strong> The research, carried out in the context of the <a href=\"https:\/\/anrs.fr\/fr\/actualites\/actualites\/france-2030-11-projets-laureats-finances-pour-mieux-comprendre-et-se-preparer-a-repondre-aux-maladies-infectieuses-emergentes-pour-pres-de-22-millions-deuros\/\">ANRS PEPR MIE 2023 NIPAH-LISA<\/a> project involving a total of 8 teams, aims at developping innovative antiviral approaches targeting the formation and\/or dynamics of viral factories of Nipah, measles and human parainfluenza type 3 viruses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) by transcription factors of the Hox family from Drosophila<\/strong> (collaboration with Yacine Graba, IBDM, Marseille, in the context of the Amidex BLANC Rercherche IDRHOX project) and<strong> from Arabidopsis thaliana<\/strong> (collaboration with Thierry Desnos, BIAM, Cadarache, in the
