As part of the CNRS Chaires de Professeur Junior (CPJ) excellence program, AFMB is delighted to welcome Dr. Yoann Aldon, appointed Professeur Junior and recipient of the iBIO chair “AI for Protein and Drug Design.” Yoann Aldon earned his PhD from Imperial College London in 2019, before undertaking six years of postdoctoral research at the University of Amsterdam and at the Institute for Protein Design at the University of Washington. Through this multidisciplinary career path, he has developed expertise at the interface of several fields, including immunology, vaccinology, structural biology, and protein engineering.

Professeur Junior Yoann Aldon will establish his research team within CNRS unit UMR7257 (AFMB). This new team, entitled Protein Design for Biotherapeutics (PD4Bio), will focus its research on the development of novel immunogens, vaccines, and other therapeutic biomolecules using artificial intelligence–guided protein design approaches. The team’s work will place particular emphasis on the engineering of viral glycoproteins, while also addressing other pathogens that target mucosal sites. Local, national, and international partnerships will help support this new team and open collaborative avenues toward other biotherapeutic challenges. We are enthusiastic about the scientific perspectives this new team will bring to AFMB and warmly welcome Yoann to our institute
