Viral infections of the male genital tract represent a major global health concern due to their implications for viral dissemination and reproductive health. In this seminar, I will offer an overview of viruses that infect the male genital tract (MGT) and their consequences at the individual, offspring, and population levels, from ancient to emerging infections. Using Mumps virus, SARS-CoV-2, Zika, and Chikungunya viruses as examples, I will then delve into issues of male reproductive health disruption and prolonged sexual transmission, and explore the mechanisms underlying the establishment of viral reservoirs in the testis.
