Version courte : Violation of research integrity is a danger to science and its credibility. It hurts not only the researchers and their institutions but also the society. To deal with this situation it is essential to fight bad practices and, above all, to promote good practices at all stages of a research project ranging from the data collection to the publication. We will discuss together the existing tools and possible actions to go in this direction.
Version longue : The hard pressure for publication, the strong competition for funding and position, and the weight of quantitative evaluation, can pave the way for inappropriate behaviors ranging from a tendency to sloppy science to questionable research practices and even fraudulent behavior, such as fabrication and falsification of data, and plagiarism. These misconducts are a danger to science and its credibility. They hurt not only all research staff members and their institutions but also the society. To deal with this situation it is essential to fight bad practices and, above all, to promote good practices at all stages of a research project ranging from the data collection to the publication. We will discuss together the existing tools and possible actions to go in this direction.
Following the seminar, the workshop will focus on case studies that will enable participants to reflect on their own practices and those of their peers.
