In recent years, his team has made major discoveries. Juan Reguera, in particular, has revealed the molecular structure of the enzyme that allows the bunyavirus family—including the Rift Valley fever virus—to reproduce its genetic material. The team has also uncovered the complexes formed by cellular and viral elements necessary for the replication of the Chikungunya virus within infected cells. These advances are crucial to understanding how these viruses hijack cellular machinery for their own benefit and propagate within their host. They are expected to help in the design of targeted antiviral treatments and in combating these serious emerging diseases in humans.
2024 Laureate of the Lucien Tartois Prize from the Foundation for Medical Research
Each year, thanks to the generosity of donors, the Foundation for Medical Research (FRM) recognizes exceptional researchers for their innovative and promising work. This is a unique opportunity for the FRM to highlight outstanding scientists who dedicate their lives to research, paving the way for tomorrow’s therapies.
This year, Juan Reguera has been awarded the Lucien Tartois Prize from the Foundation for Medical Research. This prize, amounting to €20,000, comes from a donation made by Lucien Tartois, former head of the cultural department at the Palais de la Découverte. It is intended to fund research in oncology, immunology, or virology.
